What's up gang? How is everyone doing with the challenges this month? Are you waking up at 5am every day and taking advantage of the elusive 'Golden Hour'? If so, you just might be half asleep as you read this email. Well, splash some cold water on that face and pay attention..
As we near the end of September, we figured it would be a good idea to remind everyone about the upcoming 'Last Sunday' workout which is being held on Sunday, October 2nd.
The goal for this gathering was to make it primarily social in nature but include a small ruck at the start to continue with Health Collective traditions. We had also intended to take the crew out to Port Stanley to ruck along the beach before enjoying a drink at GT's afterward but cooler weather has forced a detour.
We are now going to meet on Sunday, October 2nd at 2pm at the North West entrance to Victoria Park (Central & Richmond). We will be rucking 3km and finishing with a visit to one of the surrounding restaurants for social hour.
Due to the truncated distance and relatively flat terrain, everyone is encouraged to bring the heaviest load they believe is possible for the prescribed distance. Pack what you think you can handle.. and then add 5lbs. If you need a hand on the day of, one of your Health Collective members can help share the load.
OCTOBER 2022
Well, the temperature is dropping, the leaves are beginning to change colours and we're only three months away from completing the first full year of Health Collective challenges. For those of you who are still hanging on and doing your best to implement the 'Do Hard Things' motto into your daily routines - kudos to you.
Just like the end of a long day, or a long week, the tail end months of the year can start to unravel a little due to fatigue. Let's face it, a lot of stuff happens during the year and the last quarter always seems to ramp up with activity until we cap it off with the pinnacle of schedule busting stress - holiday season. With that said, it's always a smart idea to double down on our foundational 'healthy habits' to keep us feeling healthy, happy and stress-free as we stroll into October, November and December.
We've been working hard to introduce a lot of new stuff to you over the last nine months and you'd be doing well if you managed to adopt even 15% of the new habits. Even that might be a bit too generous. Habit building is tough.. well good habit building is tough, bad habits are easy to build but prove to be the hardest to undo. With thee quarters of the year spent trying to make tweaks and adjustments to our daily routines, we figured it would be safe to assume that a handful of these habits may have fallen by the wayside.
This month is about bringing things back to the basics, reevaluating your goals and setting the appropriate systems in place to achieve them through the use of sound habit building.
SUGGESTED READING
The suggested reading for this month is Atomic Habits by James Clear.
"Atomic Habits is the definitive guide to breaking bad behaviors and adopting good ones in four steps, showing you how small, incremental, everyday routines compound into massive, positive change over time."
HEALTHY HABIT
This month's Healthy Habit challenge is to pick one small habit that has continued to evade you for some time and put it into practice every day in October. The main word here is small - we're not looking for something monumental here. Choose something so seemingly insignificant that it barely seems like a challenge and do it every day. Some suitable examples here are flossing, making your bed, drinking water first thing in the morning, etc. And you can only choose one habit to work on as well.
Consider this practice to help hammer home the core concept in Atomic Habits - Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results.
As always, you're encouraged to share the tiny change you plan to implement. Feel free to reply to this email or share it on socials so the rest of us can see what people are working on!
