Hey everyone, Dave and Gord here.
Welcome to the Health Collective, we’re very happy to have you.
THE RUNDOWN
Who are we?
Well, the elevator pitch looks something like this:
The Health Collective
/helTH kəˈlektiv/
noun
'A group of like-minded individuals looking to enrich their lives by 'doing hard things' through a series of physical and mental challenges throughout the course of the year. No obligations, no judgement, only encouragement and support from the community to help raise each other up. Everything is optional, free of charge and open to anyone who wishes to join.'
We are individuals who are invested in our health and interested in personal growth. We are generalists who see immense value in the practice of rounding out our character by optimizing our daily efforts to become the best version of ourselves possible.
What is the Health Collective?
The Health Collective is a conduit to bring together as many like-minded individuals as possible with the aim of increasing personal improvement in each member. In other words, it’s a way to connect with similar people to help you reach your potential while helping others do the same.
What are we trying to accomplish?
The aim of this collective is to help promote and accelerate growth for all members. We plan to achieve this by posting various challenges, suggested readings and hosting group workouts - all of which are completely optional - in hopes that people will try some new things, push themselves out of their comfort zone, lean on the community that we’re building here with hopes of coming out the other side an elevated human.
Everything is 100% optional. Members can take part in everything, absolutely nothing, and anything in between. Do only what you’re comfortable with but know that we strongly encourage you to pick things you normally wouldn’t, especially if they seem too challenging or maybe even impossible - that’s when a lot of fun (growth) can happen.
Also, remember that your fellow Collective members will be trying a lot of the same stuff you are. This can help just knowing that you’re not the only one suffering a little to try and improve their overall health.
Each month is a new month
Every month comes with three unique challenges: a Healthy Habit, a Suggested Reading, and a Group Workout. When possible, the suggested readings will build off the healthy habits and the workouts may also be adapted to fit the theme as well. At other times, they may be as random as peanut butter and billy goats. One thing that’s guaranteed either way is that if you complete one, two or all three of the challenges in the month, you will have levelled up in your journey of growth - that’s a win any day of the week.
THE CHALLENGES
Suggested Reading
The books chosen for the suggested readings are all meant to address one element of health but may vary widely across the entire spectrum of personal betterment. They will all be reasonably easy reads as well in hopes that they can be inserted effortlessly into already busy routines.
Feel free to consume these books any way you see fit. If you want to obtain the physical copy, great. If you prefer audiobook, that works as well. Many times you will be able to source free PDF downloads online as well. As long as you consume the content, mission accomplished.
Healthy Habit
The habits chosen here will be selected from a large list that will also vary greatly as there are just so many healthy habits that are worth experimenting with. You can think of these challenges to be things like ‘Drink x amount of water’ or ‘Accumulate x number of hours sleep per night’ for example.
When possible, we will align the habits with our suggested reading. As stated above, these are optional but if you were to put your efforts into only one silo, choose this one as we strongly feel these will prove to be the most difficult and in turn produce the greatest results.
Group Workout
Once per month we will host an in-person group workout. This will be a chance to meet some of your fellow Health Collective members as well as push yourself harder than you might normally on your own, through drawing from the power of the group. These workouts will be provided free of charge.
